WEB DESIGNS FOR THE LEFT SHORE
Bill Mallia Creates Sites To Help Grow
Businesses
By Emily Clark, Wicked Local

PLYMOUTH — Bill Mallia knows that some of the greatest businesses have
the most dreadful websites. They feature old events, long past, links
that don’t link, hard to decipher postings and a myriad of other flaws
that can send potential customers packing.
Sometimes it’s a disconnect between reality and promotion. A funky
restaurant with a lot of flare boasts a bare bones, beige-plagued
website with absolutely no funk. Other times it’s simply a matter of
maintenance. Nothing says “blah” like a website promoting last week’s
event or a site that requires the customer to meditate to figure out how
to use it, Mallia said.
After decades in the travel industry, fashioning websites for travel
agents, promoting various hotels and air travel organizations, Mallia
has now started his own Web design business – Left Shore Designs.
An expert at knowing how to get the attention of those inured to
attention-getting ads, Mallia says he tailors websites to the individual
business and its needs, helping to boost sales and customers.
Why Left Shore? “Plymouth makes up the entire left shore of Cape
Cod Bay,” Mallia explained. But the seeds of Left Shore Design
began decades ago further north. After completing his bachelor’s
degree at Ithaca College in New York – with a major in recreation and
tourism and a minor in business – Mallia leapt into sales. As a
sales rep for the Barbados Tourist Authority, Air Tahiti NUI and
Caribbean hotels, Mallia flew all over the world for years, visiting 80
to 100 travel agents per month. “I’ve been to the Caribbean 250
times,” he added, laughing.
In 1995, his job got tougher when the airlines stopped giving
commissions to travel agents who booked with them. Many travel agents
were forced out of business, and Mallia had to think on his feet about
his next step. So, he became a cyber sales representative, still working
with travel agents, but this time through the creation websites.
“I was a cheerleader with pom-poms,” he said. “I created
www.TravelSalesRep.com – the
first and only travel online cyber sales rep. It was website promotion
for travel agents, promoting hotels, airlines, cruise lines, etc.”
Today, he’s using those skills to help local businesses like the
Plymouth Yacht Club and the Plymouth Rod & Gun Club, designing and
maintaining relevant and savvy websites. Many business-owners
still don’t understand the importance of their website in luring new
business, Mallia said. “A lot of them look like somebody’s cousin
did them,” he said. “You don’t want old news. You have to keep them
updated. I’m really targeting local businesses with 50 or fewer
employees.”
He combines the technical aspects of the job with his artistic and
writing skills to create a marketing sensation, he said, bringing in new
business with a site that matches the company, is easy to access and
use, and is up-to-date. Website need to be updated routinely, he added,
in order to look viable and successful. They also need good graphics
that sync with the business’ style.
Mallia also designs images as part of his Internet Art Studio.
Businesses on a budget are no problem for Mallia; his website designs
start at $500, he said. For more information on Mallia and Left

WEBSITE DESIGN FIRM LAUNCHED
IN PLYMOUTH –
“LEFT SHORE DESIGNS”
Plymouth, MA, August 2010 – – “Left Shore Designs” has officially opened
to all, bringing thirteen years of web design experience to Southeastern
Massachusetts area businesses. Specializing in website design that is
both graphically attractive and operationally functional, the firm is
accommodating organizations that either wish to create a web presence or
are looking to rebuild the old site they currently have.
Left Shore Designs is not new to the website designing game. Ocean
Crest Creative, Left Shore Design’s parent, has been one of the travel
industry's most innovative sales and marketing companies since 1991. In
1997, as part of their efforts to promote the world's travel industry
suppliers, the firm became deeply involved in creating, designing and
maintaining a number of, mainly, preparatory websites. According to
Bill Mallia, President of Left Shore Designs, “While there has always
been great demand for our website creation services, Ocean Crest
Creative has always passed up the opportunity to design for others -
until now”.
“The art and science of constructing a website tends to attract either
graphic designers or ‘tech geeks’, neither of which are overwhelmingly
suited for the job as a whole,” according to Mallia. He says his small
firm’s efforts are geared to create and maintain websites that both look
great and navigate well – strangely a rare combination for many websites
on the Internet today.
From accommodating resorts to small businesses - haute cuisine
restaurants to high performance manufacturing companies, Left Shore
Designs is offering free quotes to those who have realized the
importance of a well groomed Internet presence (www.leftshoredesigns.com/freequote.html).
As the doors at this “Internet art studio” have just opened, rate quotes
are very reasonable, so it’s an outstanding time for any area
organization to take advantage of this offer.
